Strawberries and cream, these two just simply belong together. The key to these delicious strawberry and cream ice cream sundaes is: fresh strawberries! This is the perfect dessert to have during strawberry season. It has the flavors of strawberry shortcake, but it takes it up a level, letting the strawberries be the star! This sundae is so easy to make and tastes absolutely decadent. Once bite and you will be hooked!
This sundae comes together with just a few ingredients – fresh strawberries, sugar, vanilla ice cream, and whipped cream. It’s rich, fresh, simple and downright addicting.
I must admit, that normally I’m more of a chocolate sundae fanatic. If you took me to an ice cream shop, I would never in a million years order a strawberry sundae. I’m telling you this because, this sundae right here, this sundae I would order over and over again and not miss my chocolate sundae one bit, it’s that good! If you love ice cream, or strawberries, or cream, or really just deliciousness, than my friend, you have to make this sundae. You just have to.
Makes 4 sundaes-
One quart fresh strawberries
3 tablespoons sugar
One quart vanilla ice cream
Heavy whipping cream, or store bought whipped cream
- Wash and dry the strawberries and remove the stems. Place in a large bowl and using a potato masher, mash the berries. This releases the strawberry juice. Continue mashing until all strawberries are smashed into smaller pieces. You can also use a large fork. Once my berries were smashed with the potato masher, I then went back and used a fork to press them a little more. Stir in the sugar and mix together. Place in the fridge and leave for a few hours. This will allow the sugar and berries to continue to make the delicious sundae sauce!
- If making your own whipped cream, combine 4 ounces of heavy whipping cream with one teaspoon vanilla and 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar in a bowl. Mix until soft peaks form.
- Now it’s time to layer your sundae! Spoon some of the strawberry sauce into the bottle of your glass and alternate with ice cream until you reach the top. Top with whipped cream and dig in!
